Our Beef
We recently purchase a Devon bull to provide added genetic quality to calves. The Devon breed are known for their efficiency in using grass to produce desirable finished carcass quality. Our cows are a mix of Angus and Hereford breeds, and with the Devon bull the calves are strong and grow well in our environment. We continue to manage for a small frame cow so the calves put meat weight on rather than frame weight. Our cattle are pure vegetarians -- no "mad cows" here -- and are never fed the grains that are used by conventional growers to accelerate the fattening process. Cattle were made to prosper on the natural salad bar found in our diverse grass pastures, and they do that from our farm to your table at Groff’s Content.
Our beef sells by hanging carcass weight and is available by the whole, half and split half. Hanging weight for a half will be about 300 lbs, and with shrink and some bone loss, you should end up with about 200-225 lbs of meat in the freezer.
Generally beef is ready in the early summer and in the fall. Beef by the cut is available in limited quantities at the farm. |
